Bihar, Jharkhand sign agreement on sharing Sone River water
The chief ministers of Bihar and Jharkhand signed an agreement to divide the Sone River water, allocating 5.75 million acre‑feet to Bihar and 2 million acre‑feet to Jharkhand, resolving a long‑standing dispute over the 7.75 million acre‑feet originally allotted to undivided Bihar under a 1973 accord.
The settlement clarifies water rights between the two states, reducing potential inter‑state conflict over a vital resource.
